The excitement that came with the first trailer for Nintendo’s new console has taken an unexpected turn, with some confusion over the gaming footage.
Nintendo told Eurogamer that users “shouldn’t assume what you saw on the video represents actual game footage and further specifics on first-party games will be provided later”. The first trailer was more about explaining how the system worked than anything else, it said.
Nintendo warns in the trailer that footage shown may be subject to change but it’s an interesting development nonetheless.
Since the trailer went live, however, there has naturally been a lot of discussion around the games hinted at in the video.
But, in another twist, developers Bethesda and 2K told Polygon that despite footage of Skyrim and NBA 2K respectively appearing in the trailer, they couldn’t confirm those games were in development for the Switch.
Nintendo includes both studios on its official list of announced supporting developers, so they may just be wanting to stay quiet for now.
What has also been confirmed since is that in the box with the Switch will be two of the Joy-Con controllers – a left and right – to snap on to the mobile screen and any other controller set-ups you have. Nintendo is yet to reveal if the Joy-Con Grip or the Pro controller will come as part of the standard package.
However, it does mean that the cool two-players-on-one-portable-screen set-up will be accessible straight out of the box – which is likely to be one of the best experiences on the Switch.
