Trawling through endless pictures on internet showrooms before eventually biting the bullet and organising a viewing – we all know the pains of flat-hunting.
Well, a company in Singapore may have solved this problem.
Keppel Land have built virtual reality versions of their bedroom units, which they take to customers to Keppel Land’s general manager Albert Foo said he decided they could save on cost and time by creating the VR showrooms, rather than build and lease new land. He was right too, he said constructing the three and four bedroom show-flats in VR took only two months in comparison to the six which would have been needed for real flats.
The headset allows visitors to look around the units, tapping to enter bedrooms. The VR doesn’t allow the user to walk around the apartments but it gives 360° views in the rooms to give them an idea of the space. Sounds taken from actual recordings from the property’s district in Tiong Bahru also feature to add extra realism to the tour.
The virtual house viewing was built by Visual Media Works (VMW) who told Mashable they decided against having customers walk through the virtual home due to many of them likely being novices to the VR system, and chose the Oculus Rift due to its simplicity.
When will such next-generation flat-viewing technology come to the UK you ask? Well, according to this post from one Youtube user, whom appears to be a property seller, it already has. view using the Oculus Rift VR system.
