Big news if you have an iPhone 7 Plus – Apple’s much-discussed Portrait photo mode is now available to users thanks to the first major software update to iOS 10.
This is the feature that uses the two lenses on the 7 Plus to create a depth-of-field effect to images, adding focus to subjects in the foreground while blurring the background. Also known as bokeh, this is one of the main reasons Apple added a second camera to the rear of the 7 Plus.
Bokeh has been a feature predominantly reserved for DSLR cameras, but a smartphone can now offer some competition in that area. Here’s our first attempt at using it, alongside some from Apple themselves.
Also in the update were a whole host of bug fixes and tweaks to iOS 10 for all users, including better transit system mapping for Japan and tweaks to the new animations in iMessage, including the ability to replay them.
There were also updates for the Apple Watch with distance and average pace added to workout summaries in the Activity app for wheelchair users, as well several bug fixes.
