A Friends reunion might be a pipe dream, but a group of computer researchers have used machine learning to create new scenes containing the one and only Joey Tribbiani.
Researchers from the school of computing at the University of Leeds built a piece of video software that can identify, learn and analyse the speech and characteristics of characters in TV shows. Though basic for now, they used the software to firstly identify all the main characters in Friends, then to create new lines for Joey based on what it heard and learned about him.
